Trivia Night & Silent Auction in support of U13 Russell Raiders trip to the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden 

A group of local 13 year-old soccer players will be travelling to Gothenburg, Sweden next July to compete in the Gothia Cup, the largest youth soccer tournament in the world. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these young players to represent our municipality and our country in an international competition.

In order to reduce the costs for the team, a committee has been set-up to raise funds for this trip. The Trivia Night/Silent Auction is open anyone who is interested in a great evening of entertainment (you don't need to be a trivia expert!) and those who wish to support the cause of raising funds for this special trip.

The fun begins at 7:30 pm on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Russell House on Mill Street.

Russell and District Horticultural Society Annual Plant Sale

Come to the Russell Curling Club and stock up on all the plants you want for your garden this year. With the fair celebrating it's 150th anniversary the RDHS has ordered some unusual bedding plants that would have been around at the time of the Fair's beginning. Expect to see snapdragons that grow up to 3 feet tall, flowers that look like snapdragons but climb like a vine, plants like Bells of Ireland, Zinnia Envy and Amaranthus Green Tail--all of whom have green flowers. We will of course also have a selection of more common bedding plants, perennials and herbs. We will also have a selection of shrubs, both native and ornamentals like hydrangea, spirea, weigelia, snowberries and others and there will be a selection of native seedlings and hardy fruit trees.

Members get a 10% discount at the sale (memberships will be available for you to buy right at the sale).

7:30 PM - 10:00 PM Russell Association of the Performing Arts (RAPA) Production of GREASE!

RAPA presents Grease May 8 -10 at the Russell Arena. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door and can be purchased at Angles, Pronto and Foodland. For those out of town, tickets can be ordered by contacting Claire Desrochers at 613-448-3087.

Grease will be the largest play ever produced by RAPA and includes a great cast of students from the Russell and surrounding area.

Breath of Life Trivia Night 

There will be a Breath of Life Trivia Night at the Dr. Frank Kinnaird Community Centre in Russell to raise funds for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and to raise awareness of the need for organ and tissue donors.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. Although there is no cure for CF, organ donation does offer new hope for the approximately 3,600 children born with CF in Canada each year.

This evening will begin with a catered dinner and include, in addition to the trivia competition, live and silent auctions.

We will be meeting to discuss, among other things, the upcoming municipal sign bylaw amendment requiring all signs in Russell Township to be bilingual.  Though we are pretty sure businesses will be affected by any bilingual sign bylaw, we don't know if it will apply to all signs in the township. Municipal Council and Township staff are tight-lipped on the subject and will only release the information at the January 21st township meeting.
